The Stonehenge solstice, is a celebrated event that draws thousands of visitors each year to the iconic prehistoric monument in Wiltshire. During the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, the rising sun aligns perfectly with the ancient Heel Stone and the central Altar Stone. This alignment has fascinated people for centuries, and many gather at dawn to witness it. The atmosphere is both festive and reverent, with modern-day druids, pagans, and curious travellers coming together to honour the connection between Stonehenge, the sun, and the cycles of nature.
I’ve been documenting the solstice since 2018 and have photographed many people visiting this ancient landmark at both the winter and summer. Over time, I’ve become more interested in the normal people who come and how they connect with the regular druid visitors. It is a fascinating spectacle, and in June 2025, they saw record numbers of people attend, with an estimated 25,000 people. This was party caused by amazing hot weather and the promise of a stunning sunrise.
