The Louvre Museum’s Salle des États, or ‘Room of the States’, is the largest and most prestigious room in the museum. It houses the world-renowned Mona Lisa and The Wedding Feast at Cana by Veronese.

Recently, I visited the Louvre with my family to show my daughter the painting. I was immediately struck by the number of visitors who didn’t seem to be fully engaged with the paintings, preferring to take photographs instead. This seemed like an odd choice, especially since Google Images offers 192,000,000 results of the Mona Lisa which can easily be downloaded. Determined to capture this phenomenon, I decided to spend an hour observing the visitors taking photographs of the paintings. Later, it dawned on me that Martin Parr had done the same for his book Small World, which is a photography masterpiece. So these images are a homage to Martin Parr.
