Salle des États

The Louvre Museum’s Salle des États, or ‘Room of the States’, is the largest and most prestigious room in the museum, housing the world-renowned Mona Lisa and The Wedding Feast at Cana by Veronese.

Recently, I visited the Louvre with my family to show my daughter the Mona Lisa. I was struck by the number of visitors who seemed disengaged, preferring to take photographs instead. This seemed odd, especially since Google Images offers 192,000,000 results of the Mona Lisa, which can be easily downloaded. Determined to capture this phenomenon, I spent an hour observing the visitors taking photographs. Later, I realised Martin Parr had done the same for his photography masterpiece, Small World. These images are a tribute to Martin Parr.
