| The Capital Ring
The Capital Ring is a 78 mile walking route which forms a complete loop around London. It is the perfect place to find peace and tranquillity in a busy and vibrant city, and to explore areas of the capital which are often overlooked. The route is split into fifteen sections, usually staying within zone three and four, making it convenient to cover different sections on different days. The Capital Ring was originally set up by the London Walking Forum and local councils in 2005. It is one of a number of key walking routes within the capital. The routes share many pathways with other major walks including The Green Chain Walk, Thames Path National Trail, Grand Union Canal Walk, Brent River Park Walk, Dollis Valley Greenwalk, Parkland Walk, Lea Valley Walk and The Greenway. Each of the sections is clearly sign posted and range from 3.5 miles to 8.2 miles. Whilst walking on the Capital Ring it is often possible to forget you are within a few miles of the city; for many miles you gently pass through woods, parkland and canal towpaths, taking in landmarks such as Eltham Palace, the Thames Barrier, Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. These photographs were taken over a three year period and record my personal experience of what I found while enjoying The Capital Ring.
